While surgical masks only protect those around you and not yourself (one-way-protection), FFP2 masks filter the droplets and aerosols and offer personal protection for their wearer (two-way-protection).

Characteristics:
Better fit: Better fitting to the face and adjustable ear loops prevent the entry of unfiltered air more reliably.
The reduced leakage (less unfiltered breathing air) protects more against aerosols.
Easy handling very suitable for children and the elderly.
Low breathing resistance compared to the sole use of FFP2 or surgical masks, although these and thus their protection are further deposited.
Surgical masks are allowed (in Germany) for students up to the age of 12 – but these have poor leakage, so the SidebySde 2 in one contributes extremely to the reduction. This was tested at Leibniz Universität Hannover.
